Over four months ago, I sat on my coffee table watching Matt Lauer on the Today show before leaving for school. He was in this little place called Jungfrau, Switzerland at the tallest railway station in Europe. The video showed the red train climbing its way through the countryside and up the side of the Swiss Alps. I sat there is awe, telling myself I need to get there. Like many things in my life, I dreamed of going, but was it possible? I wasn't very sure, but I knew this was different. I knew I would get there, come hell or high water. The only other time I felt this strongly about a place was when I made that outrageous promise to myself that I would drive to California, but after 9,000 miles and over 20 states later, that dream came true because I made it come true. Switzerland was the same feeling.
I knew I would be coming to England, knew I would be able to travel the world (which still feels like a pipe dream even as I sit here staring at the places checked off on my map). I knew I could potentially get myself to the Alps. But again, I did not think it was possible. Then I booked my flight. And researched the red train. And the entire trip quickly became a reality.
I sit here now, with less than twenty four hours to go until I board the flight to Geneva and take a train to Interlaken and finally up to the Jungfraujoch. I am so happy, I could cry. It is finally becoming a reality and it is hard to believe this is my life.
I leave you with the video that sparked my interest and caused a deep desire to travel to this beautiful place. Matt Lauer in the Alps
